SERVICES

At Tom Fexas Yacht Design, Inc. we pride ourselves on our ability to produce complete design packages for clients that include hullform, styling, structure, machinery, and interior design. This negates the need for a client to have styling done by one firm, structure by another and interior design at still another firm. This not only saves design dollars, but streamlines the project as well as eliminates conflicts that develop when too many creative people are put together. That said, we have in the past worked with many of the world's top interior designers and will continue to do so if the client desires. Our services include:

TOTAL VESSEL DESIGN:

Launches, cruisers, speedboats, yachts, express cruisers, passenger boats, and workboats in all sizes of all materials.

CUSTOM DESIGN:

Over the years, we have created hundreds of custom designs for individuals who:

1) Thoroughly enjoy the design/construction process and/or

2) Cannot find what they are looking for in the production boat market.

Lady Jenn

Custom (or "one off") boats and yachts are typically built in wood, fiberglass, steel or aluminum. Custom fiberglass boats are built using a variety of proven techniques to produce individual hulls and superstructures. Typically, a custom design costs little or no more than the equivalent or similar production boat due to the fact that when building "one off" custom designs we are dealing directly with the fabricator thus eliminating the middle man and sales commissions. Custom designs are built in yards all over the world in places like Brazil, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, France, Italy, Germany, Holland, Malaysia, Singapore, Denmark and the United States.

PRODUCTION DESIGN: Grand Banks

We have done many production boats in the past for builders such as Cheoy Lee, Palmer Johnson, American Marine/Grand Banks, Mikelson Yachts, Riostar, Mares, Southern Cross, Bluewater Yachts, Zodiac, Tornado, Morgan and many others. Most of our production boats have been built in fiberglass and aluminum. Production boats are developed for builders to suit specific markets targeted by those builders. Over the years, we have established styling themes for many builders and built a family of designs of different types and different sizes based on those styling themes. We are competent in production methods and materials/components which save the builder time and money when building multiple vessels from a single design.

HULL DESIGN:

Over the years, Tom Fexas Yacht Design, Inc. has performed scores of model tank tests on different types of hull forms and have performed sea trials with hundreds of prototype vessels. Tom Fexas Yacht Design hulls are known for their unique characteristics when underway. These include minimum running angle, extremely soft ride, excellent tracking in following seas, dryness and efficiency. Over the years we have developed parent hulls which are constantly being tuned and include full displacement, semidisplacement and high speed planning types. These hulls have been modified and highly refined over time and are, we believe, the ultimate hulls available today.

STRUCTURE DESIGN:

Structural design in all materials, analysis, propulsion engineering, stability/sea keeping, systems design including electrical and plumbing and classification to various regulation societies including DNV and ABS. We specialize in steel, aluminum, solid fiberglass and foam cored fiberglass construction. TFYD has been designing in foam cored fiberglass construction since 1976 and probably has more experience with cored fiberglass structures than any other yacht design office in the world.

STYLING:

Styling of all types of vessels from traditional to contemporary themes including trawler yachts, motor yachts, classic motor yachts and the establishment of styling themes for production boats - classic styling is a specialty.

INTERIOR DESIGN:

Layout of the interior in three views to exactly suit the owner's specifications.

WEIGHT REDUCTION:

When necessary, TFYD has the means and experience to eliminate weight without sacrificing strength by the use of detailed structural analysis, specialized scantlings, exotic materials and careful component selection.

EXISTING VESSEL MODIFICATIONS:

Restyling, hull/superstructure lengthening and modification, engine backfits, driveline modification, interior modifications and equipment modifications.

EXPERT WITNESS:

Servicing private parties as well as the marine industry in all legal matters involving motor vessels.

FORENSIC ANALYSIS/DESIGN ANALYSIS:

Structural failure analysis, casualty analysis, "as built" inspections.

REPAIR PROCEDURES:

Detailed procedures to return damaged vessels to "as built" condition.

TROUBLESHOOTING:

Analysis and recommendations for correcting poor performance characteristics (speed, trim, steering, wetness, etc.) of existing vessels that have not had the benefit of our design expertise.
